Haute Spots Boston: Fall at the Wequassett Resort and Golf Club on Cape Cod
Bostonians and tourists alike flock to Cape Cod during the warm summer months for its long stretches of sandy beaches, seafood restaurants and glorious sunsets. In the fall, the temperatures drop to a cooler climate, the crowds are gone and the charming Cape is ready for your visit.

One of the best properties for a weekend escape is the Wequassett Resort and Golf Club. The luxe resort is tucked away in Harwich on 27 waterfront acres in the lower Cape on the Nantucket Sound. The property has 120 guest rooms and suites, four restaurants, two pools, tennis courts and an 18-hole championship golf course.

We recommend a stay in a Junior Suite, part of the resort’s Signature Collection that was completed in 2009. This massive waterfront suite has a separate living room with flat screen TV, wall of windows overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, a dual gas fireplace, spacious marble bathroom with double sinks, jet tub and separate glass shower along with an outdoor patio complete with a private gas fire pit. Just press a button in the living room to the fire pit, brew a cup of hot chocolate and head out for a night of relaxation.

When it comes to dining, there are a couple of options here during the fall months. For formal dining, head to Twenty-Eight Atlantic, the property’s signature restaurant or Thoreau’s for more causal fare at the adjacent tavern. At Thoreau’s, you have the option of ordering from the Twenty-Eight Atlantic menu as well so you have the benefit of two menus at your fingertips. We recommend getting started with a dozen fresh oysters served on the half shell accompanied by a fiery cocktail sauce and lemon granite. For dinner, we love the swordfish and juicy dry aged ribeye served with a side of jumbo grilled asparagus and creamy hand whipped potatoes. Be sure to save some room for the flaky apple crisp with caramelized apples served with a scoop of cinnamon ice cream.

As for activities, you can attend a local cranberry bog and harvest festival, take a bike ride along the Cape Cod Rail Trail, request a private beach picnic to be planned on the Outer Beach, or simply relax in an Adirondack chair at night for some spectacular star gazing. The Wequassett has recently partnered with Sperry (boat shoe company) to offer select guest rooms with Gold Cup Shoes as an in-room amenity. The New England favorite preppy shoe features hand-sewn in luxurious lambskin leather with 18K gold plated eyelets.
