This Week In Dubai: Martin Frost, Venice Film Festival, Raag ‘N’ Rock

Fall is kicking into full swing in Dubai and around the world. The Venice Film Festival was held this week and wraps up this weekend, while Dubai hosts several concerts this week, including a performance by Martin Frost.

The French Wind Quartet

On Thursday, the Dubai Concert Committee brought the French Wind Quintet to the One and Only Royal Mirage. The five musicians in the quartet include: flute player Phillippe Bernold, oboe player Olivier Doise, clarinet player Patrick Messina, bassoon player Julien Hardy, and horn player Herve Joulain. This was the first time the French Wind Quintet came to Dubai. The group has performed throughout Europe.

Friday Night Concerts

Friday brings a pair of high-class concerts, including another chamber music concert, this time by Martin Frost. He is playing at the Dubai Community Theatre and Arts Centre at Mall of the Emirates. Martin Frost plays the clarinet and has collaborated with a number of high-profile chamber musicians. Friday’s concert is the fourth in the Emirates NBD Classics series.

Legendary Indian classical singer Pandit Jasraj is also performing in Dubai on Friday night. He will perform at the Madinat Theatre.

Raag ‘N’ Rock Music Festival

Also on Friday, Al Nasr Leisureland Ice Rink in Oud Metha plays host to the Raag ‘N’ Rock Indie Music Festival. Neha Nair, Yakzan and Band, Job Kurian, Masala Coffee, and Vidwan are performing.

Film stars descended on Venice all this week for the 72nd annual Venice Film Festival. Among the major screenings at this year’s festival are The Audition, a 16-minute short which was directed by Martin Scorsese and stars Leonardo DiCaprio Brad Pitt, and Robert De Niro, and Janis, a documentary about singer Janis Joplin, which was directed by Amy Berg.
