If Cake Bar had been located in Paris in the 1700s Marie Antoinette might have fared just a little better with her, Let them eat cake!” comment. Lucky for you it is conveniently located in Trinity Groves so you can indulge your sweet tooth whenever you like.
And when we say indulge we mean totally immerse yourself in cake.
Cake Bar is a dessert bar and retail shop. They have 16 different cakes, all made from scratch plus pound cakes, quick bread, cookies, ice cream, and beverages — because who can eat cake without a great cup of coffee to go with it? The layer cakes are really the stars of this heavenly-scented spot. Tender layers of cake are separated by just the right amount of filling so that each bite is perfect — not too sweet but just right.

Owner-baker and Southern caker Tracy German knows her stuff. She’s been selling cakes out of her home for 14 years and the demand has become so great that she can hardly keep up with the orders. Luckily she was willing to create magic in a storefront rather than just her kitchen alone. Her cakes are the stuff memories are made of. Literally, the stuff memories are made of — customers can submit their family recipes for inclusion in Cake Bar’s lineup of yumminess. If selected German will recreate them and feature them as the cake of the month.

It really goes without saying that the cakes are made from scratch with fresh ingredients. Chocolate, strawberry, key lime, Italian Cream — the list is just one droolworthy moment after another. Tracy German even gives a nod to her Southern roots with our personal favorite, Hummingbird Cake, stacked tall and frosted with a drift of rich, cream cheese frosting. Well… then again maybe it’s the Classic Yellow Cake with Chocolate Frosting. It’s six layers of OMG on a plate.
There are a few tables inside and more seating outside. Since temperatures should plummet to the high 80’s in the next few weeks sitting outside is more of a possibility and there’s just no better way to people watch than to do it while savoring your favorite cake, right?

The slices are generous and you can get a scoop of ice cream on the side. Of course whole cakes are available, too. You know, if you are having guests for dinner or even if you ‘ve just had one of those days where scarfing down an entire cake is a necessity. No judgement, we’ve been there. We understand.
