Haute Pro Tips: Throwing the Ultimate Divorce Party
2015 has certainly become the year of celebrity divorces. Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rosedale, Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton, Reba McEntire and Narvel Blackstock, and most recently Brian Austin Green and Megan Fox have all announced they were parting ways.
While navigating the minefield of divorce can be a sad period in one’s life, it is also the beginning of a new and exciting time. This fresh start calls for celebration! Divorce parties are becoming the new hautest trend.
Long gone are the days of mourning a separation alone while eating ice cream in sweats. Instead, women are choosing to celebrate their freedom, embrace their empowerment and surround themselves with bliss and best friends. Think less Bridget Jones and more Sex and the City.
Don’t know what to wear to a divorce party? Want to know the best songs to play? Sofia Crokos, New York-based celebrity event planner, shares some haute tips and tricks that you won’t want to miss for the ultimate divorce party!
DECOR
This is highly dependent on the venue of your single-soiree. If you’re having the party at a restaurant, small décor accents such as flowers can add a festive touch. Choose colors such as red, ox blood and dark lavender for a sexy and empowering vibe. If you’re having the party elsewhere, more décor might be necessary. Add some glitz with metallic rimmed glasses or a playful touch with printed straws and cocktail napkins.
DRINKS
Create a signature drink for the fabulous lady being honored, complete with a sassy drink name and all. Since it is a celebration, champagne is another great option. Jazz up your bubbles by adding some pink cotton candy into the glass first for a fun color and some sweetness. If all else fails, tequila will always do the trick. Cheers!
PLAYLIST
Good music can make or break a party. You want a playlist that gets guests dancing and, most importantly, allows the guest of honor to let loose, sing out loud and have fun. With the abundance of songs about being single that are out today, it is easy to over do-it with the single-lady theme. Remember to keep in mind the event is about celebrating. For every one song that is themed, add two that aren’t to your playlist.
Some fun girl-power themed songs to add include:
“I’m Every Woman,” Chaka Khan
“Independent Women,” Destiny’s Child
“No Scrubs,” TLC
“Run The World (Girls),” Beyoncé
“Hit Me With Your Best Shot,” Pat Benatar
“Stronger,” Kelly Clarkson
“Irreplaceable,” Beyoncé
“Ridin Solo,” Jason DeRulo
“We Are Never Getting Back Together,” Taylor Swift
And of course: “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It),” Beyoncé
ATTIRE
Guests should wear festive attire appropriate for the venue of the event. Find a cute cocktail dress or some jeans, heels, and a stylish top. Play around with some make-up for a sexy look, such as a smokey eye or a red lip. Whether you’re single or happily married, ditch your date-night routine and have fun with your look for the evening. If all else fails an LBD and some flashy jewelry is always a winner!
If you’re the fabulous single-lady being honored for the night, wear something you feel comfortable and beautiful in. It doesn’t necessarily have to be sexy, but it definitely can be! Everything in your closet remind you of past events with your ex? Want to get something new and fun for the celebration without buying a whole new outfit?
