The Peninsula Plans a London Location
Around the world people head to Peninsula Hotels for a sophisticated luxury that simply cannot be found elsewhere. It is only natural that they now have grand plans for a new London location.
London is synonymous with class and style; both of which are also true to The Peninsula hotels. The plans for this new outpost were revealed as a £500m venture between the Grosvenor and The Hong Kong and Shanghai Hotels. It seeks to be their most coveted location yet with arrangements to put the luxury hotel at Hyde Park Corner and replace the current 1960s office building that lives there. This will mean that this area will boast one of the most concentrated areas of five-star hotels in the world. It will be in the company of landmarks like the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, the Dorchester, The Four Seasons, the Bulgari and the Berkeley. This Peninsula will be the third of Asia’s luxury hotel brands to open in London. The Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park and the Shangri-La in The Shard just opened last year.
The London Peninsula will be designed by Hopkins Architects, who intend the new building to be a sister hotel to the Hong Kong Peninsula. “This is an exciting opportunity to shape a very special corner of London…The Peninsula London is another important step in our journey,” promises Peter Vernon, CEO of Grosvenor Britain & Ireland. This Peninsula also has the potential to support approximately 2,800 new jobs in the wider economy. The hotel has every opportunity to become a London staple and integral part of the city.
The 190-room landmark will have unparalleled views of the park and even some overlooking the gardens of Buckingham Palace. You are pretty much royalty. The hotel will also possess a world-class spa, shops, restaurants, bars and up to 28 residential apartments. All of this will be centered around an internal ‘Palazzo’ courtyard which will allow vehicle access. The architectural style will reflect and blend with that of the Belgravia area. Construction on the London Peninsula is projected to start summer 2017 and open sometime in 2021.
