“A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself.” ―Josh Billings
Dogs. They are no longer relegated to the confines of a kennel, a yard, or home. You see them being carried around in special dog transport devices, being walked through the local home improvement store, and even in the mall. They live everywhere from the nicest penthouse in Downtown to the smallest tract home in Oak Cliff — and the lucky ones are loved and pampered by their owners.
If you are one of those people who believes that your pet deserves a bit of pampering then The Velvet Snout may be exactly the pup-pampering place you are looking for. With three locations in DFW (Lewisville, Richardson and Downtown but the Downtown location is closed until September) the facilities are conveniently located. The Velvet Snout is full service offering day care, boarding, grooming, and even obedience training classes.

If you have to leave your pet at home everyday while you work he may be getting bored and getting into trouble. When dogs are bored they tend to bark and drive the neighbors crazy, chew up your brand new Louboutin’s, or dig enough holes in the back yard to create a golf course. Doggie day care allows them to have companionship, exercise, and fun with other dogs while you are away. The Velvet Snout separates the dogs by size and temperament then supervises them closely to make sure that no one is getting bullied. The playrooms are large enough that the dogs can interact with other dogs and the caretakers. There are live webcams that allow you to log on from your computer or phone and check up on your four-pawed pal.
No worries if you’ve got an important business trip looming in the near future. The boarding facilities are called suites because they are not kennels or cages. The suites are 4 x5 to accommodate most breeds. If you have a larger dog, or you just want a little more space there are penthouse suites that are 6×6. Your pet will be boarded indoors in a climate controlled area furnished with a Kuranda cot style bed and a blanket. While your baby is in the daycare area his “suite” will be cleaned, fresh water and bedding will be added, and it will be ready for him when he returns after his busy day. There is a fully equipped kitchen that can handle special diets, too. They’ll even be sensitive to your pet’s needs if a storm arises and your dog gets nervous.
These are people who truly care about and understand dogs. What’s more important than that?
