The Journey: Level Shoe District Celebrates Ramadan

This Ramadan the world’s largest shoe store has developed a series of special projects in-store for the Holy Month, including a bespoke art installation and a short film.

Level Shoe District’s ‘Journey’ is inspired by the Arabian Peninsula’s vast desert landscape, its origins and history. Reflecting such elements is an in-store light installation by Danish artists, Julie Gad, which incorporates symbolic folding techniques and reflects patterns found in Islamic architecture and landscape. In addition, the levels and steps in the piece represent a journey consisting of small, medium, and long stairs that can often be difficult to climb. The stairs resemble the obstacles of life and the path one takes, each one of these steps representing a movement towards a higher and greater purpose.

To complement this artwork and concept, Level Shoe District has also created The Journey, a short film that was shot in a remote desert location at the Al Sahra Desert Resort. The film features a number of regional abaya and thob designers including Bedouin, Mauzan, The Kayys and Toby by Hatem Alakeel. These are paired with a curated selection of footwear brands once again reflecting  the region’s Middle Eastern heritage.

For those shoppers that head to Level Shoe District during Iftar time, the store will offer daily water and dates and well as have a local Oud player. To top it off, a selection of collectable Swarovski® branded crystals will be presented with certain purchases. Ramadan Kareem from Level Shoe District – heritage, shopping and style couldn’t have been better combined.
