Mokara Spa at the Omni Hotel in Dallas is a Wonderland of pampering and relaxation. Recently Haute Living received an exclusive invitation to experience their new Honey Mandarin Massage.
The spa is located on the fourth floor of the Omni. You know that you are in for something special the moment you step through the elevator door and into tho sleek, quiet spa area. It takes just a few minutes to fill out papers with your personal information and make a note of where you are experiencing the most discomfort. Once that is taken care of you are led back to the locker area — which sounds much less elegant than it is. It does not resemble the locker rooms that we remember from high school at all.
The locker area is clean and quiet. It contains lockers, showers, bathrooms, and an area to repair makeup and hair. You’ll also find sliced cucumbers for your eyes, cucumber and citrus infused water, and fruit in case you need a light snack. There is one area for men and one for women, of course. It’s in this area that you’ll shed your clothing and don a soft robe and comfy sandals.

Both areas open into the hallway that contains the co-ed relaxation room. This room is where you will wait until it is time for your massage or other treatment. We enthusiastically accepted the proffered Mimosa as we snuggled into one of the fluffy chairs. The serene sage and gray area is furnished with several oversized chairs and lounges placed far enough apart to allow for privacy. An enclosed fireplace adds softly flickering flames to the ambiance while light jazz plays softly.
The massage room is comfortably warm, with dim lighting and a well padded massage table in the center. The linens on the table are luxuriously soft. The biggest surprise? The table is heated so that you can have it as warm as you like — or completely turned off.
This is a classic Swedish massage with plenty of the kneading and gentle stretching that makes those sore, tense muscles turn to butter. The honey massage oil fills the room with it’s sweet, comforting scent as the masseuse expertly coaxes your body into a state of complete relaxation.
It ends much too soon but of course it would end much too soon no matter how long it actually lasted! We were ushered back into consciousness gently and then given plenty of time to convince ourselves to leave this fragrant cocoon. The masseuse leads us back to the relaxation room and, although another Mimosa is offered, sip the ice cold, infused water while trying to accept the idea that real life was waiting impatiently on the other side of the door.
