Peter Copping debuted his first resort collection (35 resort looks) as designer for Oscar de la Renta at his showroom today.
Mr.Copping introduced the collection by saying he was staying true to the legacy of the house with bright colors, embroidery and luxe fabrics.
As promised Mr. Copping delivered with a collection that was a seamless transition —a passing of the torch for the brand. But Mr.Copping wasn’t too reverential— the collection had his stamp. There was a modern ease to many of the dresses which was evident even through Mr Copping’s use of bustles and trains (which sounds victorian but was anything but). The grouping was en point and the show was a pivotal moment for fashion and for this venerable American house.
Among the fashion army in attendance were Nina Garcia, Allure‘s LInda Wells and New York Times critic Vanessa Friedman. See the show’s finale in the video below.
