British magazine i-D celebrates its 35th anniversary with 18 different covers of some of fashion’s hottest names. The summer 2015 issue, shot by Alasdair McLellan, sees the likes of Kate Moss and Lara Stone all posing in true i-D style—with only one eye visible in a cheeky wink.
Other stars gracing the special birthday covers include Jourdan Dunn, Daria Werbowy, Edie Campbell, Natalie Westling and Stella Tennant. The London based magazine, known for its focus on youth culture, fashion and music, has not only honoured its iconic ‘winking’ covers, but has also featured the likes of up and comers Karly Loyce, Adrienne Juliger and Jean Campbell as part of the 18 covers as a testament to the fact that it also focusses on discovering new talent. McLellan, who started his career at i-D, has also been busy shooting John Waters, Amanda Harlech, JW Anderson and Patrick Schwarznegger, all of whom feature inside the special anniversary issue with dedicated stories. Meanwhile designers, such as Karl Lagerfeld, Phoebe Philo, Riccardo Tisci and Alexander Wang, have all been commissioned to make special bespoke limited-edition covers that will be available to buy at London’s Dover Street Market and at other boutiques.
The magazine, which was acquired by the Vice Media Group in 2012 following the retirement of its founders Terry and Tricia Jones, has recently been focussing on expanding its digital presence, with more fashion and video content featured on its website, i-d.com. Earlier this year, i-D announced that it will be growing its video and editorial teams in New York, and that it will also open offices in Asia. The special anniversary issue is set to hit newsstands on May 28.
