American jeweler, David Yurman created a distinctive brand when he debuted his artistically woven cable chain many years ago. His latest shop on 114 Prince Street in Soho, opened its doors to international tourists and other downtown luxury consumers in November 2014. What better way to get attention during Mother’s Day than to partner with model, Liya Kebede on a shopping event, whose namesake charity advances safe motherhood in Africa?
The Liya Kebede Foundation works to reduce the number of maternal and newborn deaths in Africa. In Liya’s home country of Ethiopia, 90% of the births occur at home without medial intervention. Her foundation educates women and upgrades health facilities in order to reduce maternal deaths.
Last night, Mr. Yurman stood side by side with Ms. Kebede as a show of his support for her charity. Liya’s fashion friends, from model Constance Jablonski to TV host and stylist, Robert Verdi attended the night of shopping in honor of mothers everywhere. From April 17th through Mother’s Day, five percent of all retail and on-line sales will go to Liya’s foundation.
