Hands On The Tag Heuer Monaco V4 Phantom Watch
Tag Heuer unveiled a monster watch during Baselworld 2015, but thank goodness for us, it was not designed by Dr. Frankenstein. Instead, the all-black Tag Heuer Monaco V4 Phantom takes one of the Swiss brand’s most cutting-edge models and makes it look even sharper.
Unveiled in 2004, the first Tag Heuer Monaco V4 introduced a unique V-shaped main plate carrying four barrels mounted in two adjacent pairs on ball bearings, and a patented system of microscopic belts to power the tourbillon at 9 o’clock. Several iterations later, including the Tag Heuer Monaco V4 in titanium, this design is one of the flagships of the brand.
The new Tag Heuer Monaco V4 Phantom re-introduces its iconic movement, this time inside a totally new case, made entirely out of Carbon Matrix Composite. The result is a sexy looking timepiece combining several shades of black and grey. We counted 49, at least!
The new Tag Heuer Monaco V4 Phantom looks mighty on the wrist. Although it measures only 41 mm x 41 mm – small by modern standards – the angular shape of its case makes it stand out. However, the watch is ultra-lightweight and feels just as good as it looks.
If the Phantom once again features hours, minutes, and small seconds, the details of this timepiece continue to impress. For example, the hands are faceted and satin-finished, with a Titanium Carbide Coating and anthracite grey SuperLuminova to continue the dark tone of the design, out of which shine 48 jewels.
Fitted with a hand-stitched black matte black alligator strap with a deployant buckle and safety push-buttons with titanium carbide coating, this limited edition of 50 pieces is the perfect watch for stealthy gentleman who wish to wear a classic design with style. The Tag Heuer Monaco V4 Phantom is available for $45,000.
