Rihanna and Katie Holmes at Zac Posen New York Fashion Week
Frosty air didn’t stop friends and fans of Carolina Herrera from seeing her Fall ’15 show. The stadium was packed with chic ladies and gents including Ivanka Trump, who could have walked the runway herself considering how tall and beautiful she is. The show opened with day dresses and mini skirts as the models sauntered around clear glass columns. Then there was the red —either as accents or head-to-toe, but in either case it was the perfect shade of lipstick.
The king of fur, Dennis Basso, is going to have a very good year based on the low temperatures we are having in the northeast. Fur is a luxuriously functional material that keeps warmth and chic. To that end Mr. Basso showed fur coats in every permutaion over glamorous evening gowns and dresses. There is nothing complicated about his collections, it is pure glamour— perfect for our Haute Lady who will find many luxurious options next fall.
Zac Posen chose to have his show at Vanderbilt Hall’s Grand Central Station with a star-studded front row including Rihanna, Katie Holmes and Christina Hendricks. Mr. Posen whose dresses can be more sculpture than dress, chose a simpler silhouette for this collection with sleek looks made of silk jersey. The predominate color was cranberry with forest greens, blacks and deep blues also seen. The last gown, a tremendous corseted metallic number, almost grazed the shoes of the front row attendees, was worn a stunning 44 year old Naomi Campbell whom Mr Posen chose to walk out with for his final bow.
Tommy Hilfiger transformed the Park Avenue Armory into a football field complete grassy surface, jumbo-trons and a wall of team helmets for his 30th anniversary fashion show. The models marched out in varsity looks including leather dresses inspired by football jerseys with numbers on the backs, stadium coats and bomber jackets, cheerleader skirts.Mr. Hilfiger said his influences were Ali McGraw from the 60’s movie, Love Story, fused with a “game day spirit”. Although those 2 ideas seem miles apart — it worked resulting in a collection that was pure Tommy Hilfiger. The finale seemed perfectly staged for insagram with models marching out 6 abreast and then each row peeling away. It was an all-American extravaganza that only Tommy can pull off.
