Head to Toe: 4 Quick, Fabulous Summer Style Tips from Jeannie Mai

Jeannie Mai

SPF + Moisturizer

With the oncoming summer season it’s more important than ever to protect your skin.   Many women will mix their foundation with their SPF or forget entirely to include SPF in their makeup regime. That said, remember that SPF is not a moisturizer. It’s really just sunscreen protection so mixing your SPF with your foundation still doesn’t moisturize your skin. Always place moisturizer directly onto your skin first and foremost, then place your SPF or combination of SPF and foundation afterwards.

Bright Shades of Makeup

Women often put a lot of focus on wardrobe forgetting that makeup is also a key role to your overall look. They don’t realize they can look stuck in a rut by using the same makeup products in their cosmetic bag that they’ve been using the last 365 days of the year. You can easily brighten up that face with three easy products. One, a citrus sheer gloss over any lip color will you bring you a whole new summery shade. I like to give Mai lips some luster with MAC’s Dazzleglass in the color Smile.  Two, invest in a couple of colored mascaras.  Lavender, blues, and teals are beautiful on any shade of eye. Mai go-to is Color Mascara by NYX. Three, my all-time fave to look like I’ve been splashing in the sun is Beach Bunny Bronzer by Too Faced.

T-Shirt and Jeans

Every woman should be about that “T-shirt and jeans” life thanks to Jennifer Lopez and her new song. But that doesn’t mean you have to stick to any basic old white tee. My latest closet crush is hands down a top from Hi! Expectation. Not only is it a style stopper everywhere I go, but it also comes with a matching bottom if I didn’t want to pair it with jeans. Speaking of which, finding the right pair of jeans is also challenging in summer. Nobody wants to feel restricted in a tight pair of skinny’s, however, the boyfriend jean can fall unshapely if you don’t wear it right either. Welcome into your wardrobe a skinner boyfriend jean like those by Parker Smith. They are so relaxed and comfortable and still show off my cute toosh.

Summer Accents

Rather than purchasing a whole new wardrobe for summer, you can add accents to “summerize” what you already own. It’s really easy to incorporate a summery feel into any office wardrobe especially when most working women have a plethora of neutrals like blacks, browns, tans, and grays. It’s actually quite chic and fashion forward to mix neons with neutral shades. So take advantage of the endless neutral options you already have in your closet and mix in hints of bright colored accessories to summerize your wardrobe. Investment pieces are neon pencil belts, citrus scarves, bright colored heels or even shoe clips and broaches to add to your neutral colored shoes to remove the hassle of purchasing new shoes altogether. Also, men’s wear is a big trend this year so don’t be afraid to add a bright skinny tie, bow tie, or pocket square to your ensemble.
