Two London Restaurants Named Among Top 10 In The World
Two London restaurants have been named among the top 10 in the world at an awards ceremony in the capital.
Take a bow the two Michelin starred Dinner by Heston Blumenthal and Brett Graham’s The Ledbury.
The World’s 50 Best Restaurant Awards said it was the first time two UK restaurants had won a place in the top 10. Blumenthal’s Knightsbrudge restaurant was ranked fifth in the world (and the UK’s top dining venue) while Graham’s Notting Hill establishment sealed the 10th spot.
Meanwhile Fergus Henderson who owns a string of St John restaurants in London, was awarded The Diners Club Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the UK’s “culinary identity”.
But the big winner was the two Michelin star Danish restaurant Noma which claimed the coveted top spot for the fourth time. Spain’s El Celler de Can Roca – famed for its free-style cooking and cutting – was voted second.
The annual awards ceremony organised by Restaurant Magazine is considered a highlight of the global gastronomic calendar.
“It has been another exciting year for the awards and we are thrilled to have once again welcomed the world’s best chefs to London for a night of celebration within the industry,” said William Drew, group editor of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants.
“The appetite for reaching new gastronomic heights continues to grow and grow and we are honoured to play a small part in that process. It’s fantastic to witness the strength and breadth of talent that exists across all corners of the globe.”
The list is made up of votes of more than 900 international leaders in the restaurant industry, who each cast seven votes and are considered an alternative to the Michelin rankings.
