A Look Inside Miami Fashion Week ’14
Miami Fashion Week 16th edition may be about Miami design, but it showcased trends from all around the globe. The shows ranged from elegant, sophisticated gowns and dresses to sensual, flirtatious bathing suits. MFW revealed its first-ever resort wear runway program and pre-spring collections.
The first day, May 15th, showcased a series of spectacular shows. The highlight of the event was Eastern Air Lines’ design competition, which was topped by a special pre-spring showing by Spanish fashion designer Custo Dalmau. The Eastern Air Lines design competition showcased five Miami-based fashion designer participants. The designers were tasked with conveying the Miami/Caribbean/Latin American aesthetic into their designs. Designer Lisu Vega took home the prize with her modern and contemporary take on the flight attendant uniforms.
The second evening kicked off with the Miami Overture and Miami Style Showcase, which revealed the talents and abilities of local Miami designers including: Julian Chang, Erin Healey, Vika Frovola, Fabirizio de Castro, and Nicolas Felizola.
Day Three of Miami Fashion Week continued to excite the crowd with sensual and electrifying designs. Algerian designer Fadila Kilhel’s showcased evening wear pieces from her Couture Mirage brand that were inspired by Arab and French cultural influences. The next collection hailed from Poland, with prominent fashion designer Teresa Rosati’s exquisite collection. Rosati used top quality fabrics and translated them into high fashion evening wear. Rounding out the showcase was Olga Bolañaos whose collection creative vision tapped into the sophisticated taste and the particularities of the Latin American woman.
Miami Fashion Week culminated on Sunday, May 18h with the Prêt-A-Porter Showcase, Sherri Hill’s collection and closed by special guest Agatha Ruiz de la Prada. To celebrate the success of the 16th edition of Miami Fashion Week, models, designers, and guests attended the Closing Wrap Party at the Surfcomber Hotel.
This year’s fashion week highlighted fresh new concepts combined with exciting fashion shows and special shopping opportunities, along with VIP social events and afterglow parties at some of the trendiest hotspots in Miami.
