Haute 100 NY Update: Oscar de la Renta Is Still Trying to Turn Hillary Clinton Into A Fashion Icon

Though many would argue that it’s been a bumpy road fashion-wise for Hillary Clinton, the 66-year-old former Secretary of State looked picture perfect at Carnegie Hall’s Medal of Excellence ceremony at the Plaza Hotel late last week. And it seems she owes it all to Oscar de la Renta.

“This man has been working for more than 20 years to turn me into a fashion icon… despite his best efforts,” Clinton said in a speech honoring the famous fashion designer. “Year in and year out, he’s never given up.”

Following a seated dinner in the main ballroom with New York power players including President Bill Clinton, Chelsea Clinton, Marc Mezvinsky, Michael Bloomberg, Henry Kissinger, Diana Taylor, Ricky and Ralph Lauren, Barry Diller and Diane von Furstenberg, Anna Wintour, Mercedes Bass, and Alec and Hilaria Baldwin, de la Renta took the stage to accept the award—and offer a piece of advice Clinton.

“My beloved Hillary, do not disappoint me,” he said. “You have to be President, okay?”
