On Tuesday 13 May, Karl Lagerfeld presented the CHANEL 2014/2015 Cruise show on The Island in Dubai. A landmark event for Dubai’s fashion and luxury industry, at sunset and with the futuristic megapolis skyline as the backdrop, the designer offered a cruise trip from the Orient to the Occident. The show took place within a mashrabiya-inspired edifice made up of double C’s. The garments put forth revealed a multitude of exotic influences from the Far East seen through long beaded necklaces, lots of gold attire and intricate mosaic-like patterns.
Seen were three-piece suits and trompe l’oeil trousers, wide-legged and skinny trousers, short overalls, pleated blouses, jackets, boleros and long and mini tunics. Within each Lagerfeld reinterpreted elements from oriental art as well as modern and contemporary forms.
Guests included CHANEL ambassadresses Vanessa Paradis, Tilda Swinton, Anna Mouglalis, Alice Dellal and Zhou Xun, actresses Dakota Fanning, Freida Pinto, Elisa Sednaoui, Tasmine Hamdan and Razane Jammal, directors Nadine Labaki and Abdalla Al Kaabi were also present at the show.
