Haute Getaway: Healdsburg is the “Hollywood” of Wine Country
This week, our Haute Getaway is the quaint city of Healdsburg. Affectionately known as the “Hollywood” of wine country, this upscale getaway is cozy, eclectic and chic all at the same time. A little-known fact for city dwellers: it’s just a hop, skip and a jump outside of San Francisco (about one hour and fifteen minutes across the Golden Gate bridge). This haute spot has so many up and coming places to eat, shop and sip wine that we couldn’t fit them into one feature. So enjoy part one (of many) of our recommendations for a Haute Healdsburg Getaway.
Where to Stay
h2 Hotel
This hip, eco-friendly hotel is all about versatility. Rooms are minimalist-chic and have everything you’ll need for a comfortable stay conveniently located at 219 Healdsburg Ave. And it’s all about versatility at the h2 Hotel; whether you’re in town for a quiet night, or if you’re feeling a little more social, there’s something for everyone at h2. Head downstairs to Spoonbar for a happening crowd, scrumptious bites, impressive mixology or a glass of wine.
Currently, h2 is offering an eco-friendly travel package with Clos Curiser by C. Wonder through May 31; it is the quintessential two-night package for bicycling lovers and wine drinkers alike that includes a two-night stay at h2, a picnic lunch and wine tasting for two at Clos du Bois Winery, dinner for two at Spoonbar and access to Clos Cruisers at both h2hotel and the Clos du Bois winery.
Where to Sip
Banshee
Banshee, a relative newcomer to the Healdsburg block is an artsy, eclectic and most importantly, all-around welcoming tasting room at 325 Center Street. Founded by three friends from the Midwest and East Coast who shared a passion for wine and a lifelong dream of owning their own winery, Banshee is a casual kind of place where a hip, fashionable and friendly crowd will grab a glass (or two) before dinner, or stay all day and mingle. Many cool touches from artwork to unexpected decor make for great conversation. Choose from a flight or a single glass from Banchee’s menu of signature blends.
Where to Eat
Chalkboard
This hip contemporary bistro is another relative newcomer to the Healdsburg scene. You’ll find a bustling environment with friendly service every night of the week. Farm fresh ingredients are a staple of Healdsburg cuisine, and Chalkboard carries the tradition seamlessly. Go for approachable small plates or feast on larger dishes from the housemade pasta, seafood or meat menus. Highlights are the pumpkin soup with white truffle butter and the red wine braised short rib. The menu changes daily, so you’ll never be bored.
Where to Shop
Healdsburg Shed
Ok, so Shed is one of those all-around-do-it-all places that actually serves a variety of needs, not just food! Although we love the cafe (indoor and outdoor) dining areas at Shed, we have to admit, there is some super haute shopping that caught our eyes. This is a fantastic place if you’re looking to do any of the following:
1. Shop for farm-fresh groceries. Plus any and all kind of artisan extras.
2. Choose some really stylish table and kitchenware from around the world – or just get ideas to spruce up your own tableware.
3. Get that urban garden going now! Garden making materials are all here – kits, seeds, tools, whatever you need.
4. Have an exceptional meal at the cafe with a sparkling Shed soda (they’re freshly made and fabulous). You must try the Kale Salad, vegetarian pizza and ANY and all of the desserts.
5. Grab a cup of artisinal coffee at the uber cool coffee bar.
What a perfect time to take a trip to Healdsburg!
