Sofia Coppola May Direct Adaptation of ‘The Little Mermaid’
The Little Mermaid is getting the A-list treatment. Famed director Sofia Coppola is in talks to direct a live-action adaptation of the Hans Christian Andersen classic, reports Deadline.
Though specific plot details are still under wraps, industry insiders report that the goal is to begin production very quickly. Caroline Thompson, the mastermind behind Edward Scissorhands is rewriting the script, which will highlight the mermaid’s adventures after she make a deal to live on land after falling in love.
Atonement director Joe Wright, who is now attached to the live-action adaptation of Peter Pan, was previously in talks to direct the adaptation.
