Current/Elliot Celebrate New Denim Story Book
Fashion designers Emily Current and Merritt Elliott celebrated their new book, “A Denim Story,” this week in West Hollywood.
The Current/Elliott team was joined by celebrity pals such as Jessica Alba, Mandy Moore, Emily Current, Meritt Elliot, Hilary Kerr, Micaela Erlinger, Jen Atkin, Lauren Anderson, Hilary Walsh, Melissa Magsaysay and Katherine Power at the soiree, which was presented by Anthropologie.
The decor at the intimate dinner, held at The Hart and The Hunter on Melrose in Los Angeles, celebrated Emily and Meritt’s love affair with denim – complete with custom denim bunny ear napkin rings, chambray table cloths from Anthropologie, and dip-dyed blue flowers.
The blue theme was appropriate, given that the full title of the ladies’ tome is A Denim Story: From Bellbottoms to Boyfriends.
The book looks at how blue jeans have become an iconic part of American culture, and shows how denim has constantly reinvented itself through the decades. Icons featured within its pages include Marilyn Monroe, Patti Smith, Jane Birkin and Cher.
Emily Current and Meritt Elliott are the celebrated Los Angeles-based duo known for their whimsical and timeless sensibility that recalls classic Americana. The two CFDA members are highly regarded for an accessories collaboration with Kate Spade New York in Fall 2011; their denim brainchild, CURRENT/ELLIOTT, which they formally departed in December 2012; and a home interiors and accessories line with Pottery Barn Teen that debuted in Fall 2013, with a second collection slated for Fall 2014. The pair also style a host of fashionable Hollywood actresses including Jessica Alba, Emma Roberts, Mandy Moore and Nikki Reed, dressing them for red-carpet affairs and everyday looks.
