Scene: Glide Celebrates 50th Anniversary
Glide Memorial Church celebrated its 50-year anniversary with a feel-good evening of music, spoken word and storytelling at the San Francisco War Memorial Opera House on December 4th. The evening included a message from Dr. Maya Angelou along with performances from Valerie Simpson, Judith Hill, Tom Johnston, San Jose Taiko, the Glide Ensemble and the Change Band. The event was emceed by radio personality Renel Brooks-Moon and hosted by honorary co-chairs Dr. Maya Angelou, Pam and Larry Baer, Richard Blum, Senator Dianne Feinstein and Robin Williams. Notable VIPs in attendance included Zynga’s Mark Pincus, former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown and Senator Mark Leno. The event raised $1.7 million dollars to benefit Mo’s Kitchen and Glide programs.
