Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Born To Run’ Manuscript To Be Auctioned

Iconic American rocker Bruce Springsteen’s 1975 hit “Born to Run” is likely one of the most recognizable songs, anthems if you will, of all time. A handwritten manuscript of the song will hit the auction block at Sotheby’s in New York City on December 5. The one of a kind piece of music history is expected to fetch between $70,000 and $100,000, according to presale estimates.

The manuscript details Springsteen’s eloquent thought process, which was written out on a standard 8.5 by 11-inch piece of notebook paper, and includes the passage with the well-known line “Tramps like us, baby we were born to run.” In the margins, the singer’s curvy cursive handwriting shows where he played with different words.

“Although Springsteen is known to have an intensive drafting process, few manuscripts of `Born to Run’ are available, with the present example being one of only two identified that include the most famous lines in the song,” explained the auction house.
