Martin Scorsese was apologetic that he couldn’t be on hand to present the world premiere of the newly restored Rebel Without a Cause, but he very nicely sent a stand-in: his frequent star, Leonardo DiCaprio.

The 38-year-old actor explained to the crowd gathered at LACMA on Friday evening that the director was “stuck in New York finishing our film Wolf of Wall Street.”
DiCaprio then read Scorsese’s notes, praise for the film’s director, Nicholas Ray, and thanked Gucci and Warner Bros. for their help in funding the restoration in conjunction with Scorsese’s own Film Foundation.
Michael Govan, LACMA’s CEO and Wallis Annenberg’s director, as well as Gucci president and CEO Patrizio di Marco, were on hand to welcome the audience, which also included Gucci’s Creative Director Frida Giannini and actress Camilla Belle.
