Haute 100 Update Miami: Barack Obama and Alonzo Mourning Golf at “Caddyshack” Course

News | November 11, 2013

President Barack Obama closed out a fundraising trip to South Florida this weekend by hitting the green at the Grande Oaks Golf Club in Fort Lauderdale, the prestigious members-only golf club made famous in the 1980 classic film Caddyshack. Although film stars Bill Murray, Chevy Chase, Rodney Dangerfield, were not around, the former NBA player Alonzo Mourning was as he joined Obama on the private 18-hole course as they played through intermittent showers. Also among Obama’s golfing partners Saturday were former U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk and Cyrus Walker, the cousin of senior presidential adviser Valerie Jarrett.

“I spent six hours in a golf cart with the most powerful man in America talking everything from basketball to life after his term,” said Mourning. “It was very surreal and enlightening. It was a dream come true.”
