Sting is coming to Chicago. At least his latest endeavor will be here. Sting is producing a musical titled, The Last Ship. Before his musical theatre endeavor hits the Broadway stage, it’s going to make a short stop in Chicago next June. What better place to test out a musical than in the greatest theatre city in the world? And for anyone wondering just how Sting got into musicals, I have no idea but I did find out that his first paying gig was playing bass for the 70s revival of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.” He also has some heavyweights working on it with him, Pulitzer Prize and Tony-winning lyricist Brian Yorkey and Tony-winner John Logan are writing the book, while Tony-winning Joe Mantello will direct. And just to be extra sure it’s as good as possible, Sting has enlisted Tony-winning producer Jeffrey Seller as “part nurtured and part critic.” If you would like to see what Sting brings to musical theatre yourself, just visit www.broadwayinchicago.com to try and get your tickets as early as possible.
