Santa Monica Rejects Hugely Hyped Rem Koolhaas Project
Sorry, Santa Moncia, but Rem Koolhaas will not be designing your new Plaza.
Back in July a panel picked the renowned architect’s proposed design for the Plaza at Santa Monica at Fourth and Arizona. That design recommendation has now been rejected 5-1.
Says Mayor Gleam Davis of the decision: “It may be the most perfect project on this site. But does that make it the right project?”
The council was also concerned about the lack of housing in the proposal.
Instead of Koolhaas’ design, the council has asked Related Cos. to submit revised proposals.
