Jessie Mueller to Star in Broadway’s New Carole King Musical
Jessie Muller has just been cast as the title role in a new Broadway play about the life of celebrated singer/songwriter Carole King. Written by Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Douglas McGrath, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical will begin previews Nov. 21 at the Steven Sondheim Theatre.
The play, which has been in the works for two years, tells the story of how King fell in love with her writing partner, Gerry Goffin. It tackles the birth of their daughter, and also, their painful divorce.
The score features many of King’s classic songs including “So Far Away,” “It’s Too Late” and “You’ve Got a Friend.”
