‘Annie’ Broadway Show Picks Two New Leads

Annie

Annie‘s Broadway cast was just revamped with two new 11-year-old actresses for the title role. Taylor Richardson and Sadie Sink, who have previously played orphans and been understudies in the Broadway revival, are permanently replacing Lilla Crawford, whose last performance is July 28.

The two natural redheads are on cloud nine about their promotion and Broadway debut after years of small-scale productions. “There’s a big difference between going on for one of the orphans and going on for Annie,” beamed Taylor to the Associated Press. “There’s more songs, more dancing, more time being onstage that you have to be prepared for. So I guess you have to work extra-hard when you go on as Annie.”

Taylor, the Richmond native, has played Annie about 80 times so far and also performed in Honk! Sadie, the Houston native, has performed in The Miracle Worker and The Secret Garden. Both girls have played Susan Waverly in White Christmas. The new stars will split the eight performances a week and switch off as Duffy, the biggest orphan who sassily stomps on Miss Hannigan’s foot.
