Manhattan golf enthusiasts can now play the game in the concrete jungle. East of Penn Station, Golf & Body NYC debuts as the city’s first urban golf country club. The spacious 25,000-square-foot “course” offers golfers a gym, a restaurant, a wellness facility, several putting greens, 7 simulators and 25 virtual courses, such as St. Andrews and Pebble Beach.
Tom Schiff, CEO and owner, envisioned the private club during his past days as a commodities broker. Since its official opening in January, Golf & Body has garnered more than 60 members and plans on expanding to 250. Avid golfers pay a $5,000 initiation fee and $7,500 for annual dues at the luxury locale. Luckily, corporate accounts benefit from a club discount.
“We have a level of golf training that is really unmatched,” general manager Jeannine Harrington tells Businessweek. “It has an entertainment aspect, as well.” Ben Shear, Director of Fitness, trains an accomplished list of PGA players, such as Luke Donald and Jason Day.
