The long cream-colored dress that Liz Taylor wore to marry Conrad “Nicky” Hilton Jr. in 1950 just sold for $187,931 at auction. The Hollywood legend wore the pearl-encrusted satin gown, designed by MGM costume designer Helen Rose, in her first of her eight weddings. Hundreds of iconic guests including Gene KellyGinger Rogers and Fred Astaire came out for the A-list affair, which, according to MGM, boasted “more stars than there are in heaven.”

Featuring an illusion sweetheart neckline, long satin sleeves, a full skirt and a built-in corset, the detailed dress took 15 seamstresses several months to complete. Christie’s originally estimated that the garment would fetch between $45,000 and $76,000, but it ended up selling for more than double its value!
