London’s Boisdale Bishopsgate: An Oldie But Goodie

There are few things that go together better than steak and jazz or champagne and oysters. Luckily, at London’s Boisdale Bishopsgate you don’t have to choose because they do both. And they do them very, very well. Boisdale, the London eateries known for their impressive jazz line-ups, has just upped their game adding the Tomahawk steak to the touted beef and fresh, locally sourced seafood menu. The prime cut of beef weighs in at an impressive one kilogram (2.2 pounds) and is served with a homemade salsa verde and a rocket salad — clearly the steak is more than a meal in and of itself to warrant too many side dishes. And while the Tomahawk is reason enough to travel to the Liverpool Street haunt, during the month of April the eatery is also offering half price oysters and champagne during happy hour (Monday – Friday, 5-7pm).

Delicious menu and impeccable service aside, what we love most about Boisdale is the atmosphere. The Bishopsgate location isn’t quite as big as the other two locations (Canary Wharf and Belgravia) that offer regular jazz nearly every night of the week, but what they lack in square footage they more than make up with ambiance. The restaurant, which is actually located in the basement, with the bar area being on the ground floor, has an old-world charm about it. Dark interiors and celeb pictures grace the walls, it actually feels more New York than London. The crowd is a mixture of couples enjoying a night out and city workers entertaining clients. All the while the jazz pianist tinkles away in the background. The whiskey menu is also not to be missed… Gentleman, what more could you ask for?
