John Denver’s Windstar Foundation Headquarters for Sale

News | April 16, 2013

The 957-acre property in Old Snowmass, which John Denver purchased in the 1970s to headquarter his Windstar Foundation, is for sale and under contract, the Aspen Times reported. The property, located 15 miles from Aspen, is reportedly set to be purchased by an undisclosed buyer. It was originally listed for $13.5 million in September.

The Windstar Land Conservancy was founded in 1996 by the Windstar Foundation and the Rocky Mountain Institute to own and manage the land. The institute operates an office at the property for about 20 employees. Denver founded the Windstar Foundation in 1976, and bought the property for its headquarters. The sale will help the institute move its site to a green building in Basalt.
