Elton John’s 21st annual Oscar viewing party this year was nothing shy of spectacular. The grand tented ballroom at the West Hollywood Park hosted over 70 tables, while three outer rooms housed bartenders who served up fabulous film-themed drinks. With an incredibly long red carpet and step-and-repeat wall right at the entrance, it was certain that everyone who is anyone would be present. Did I mention the to-die-for pieces of Chopard diamonds, watches, and bracelets that glistened and teased in their respective glass vitrines? Guests had an opportunity to win a glorious Chopard piece by completing the Party Ballot in predicting Oscars winners and losers. Everyone completed the Ballot; no one wanted to leave the event Chopard-less!

Our table was next to the stage, providing an excellent view of the fabulous programming (and gorgeous piano to be auctioned off). The braised beef short rib and roasted red snapper, created by amazing Chef Gordon Ramsey, was the talk of the tables. Miley Cyrus and Kelly Osbourne got cheeky with Sir Elton John, while Heidi Klum reunited with Victoria’s Secret alum, Naomi Campbell. The illustrious affair was sponsored by Audi, Chopard, Grey Goose, and Wells Fargo drew a record number of people. The event raised a record $6 Million for Elton’s AIDS Foundation, much of which came from the auction. Attendees bid on everything from paintings and photographs, to private performances by Elton John, and tickets to the coveted Vanity Fair after party.

The most heated item of the night was a five-night stay at Steven Tyler’s Maui vacation home. Chelsea Handler and Dave Grohl went head to head, both raising the bid beyond $200,000, before another attendee rang in and beat them both with a $230,000 bid. Chelsea actually threw out a bid for $500,000, to which the auctioneer responded, ‘Lady, don’t be silly’! Private performances by Sir Elton John himself at the home of the winning bidder sold three times at $250,000 a piece. Who else was there? Anna Paquin, Stephan Moyer, Zac Efron, Nicole Richie, Joel Madden, Britney Spears, Nina Dobrev, Peter Facinelli, Jane Lynch, Jim Carrey, the Kardashian sisters, and Sir Elton’s partner David Furnish with their son, Zachary. Of course, at our table,

Dr. Chiu and I enjoyed the company of our friends from London to LA. Sir Elton John and David Furnish, being the gracious hosts they were, walked around the grand ballroom to personally thank each of their guests and patrons for the love, generosity, and support. We love you too, Elton and David!
