Ben Affleck stole the show on Saturday night during the Directors Guild Awards (DGA) winning Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film and beating out renowned directors Steven Spielberg, Ang Lee, Kathryn Bigelow and Tom Hooper.
According to The Huffington Post, the Directors Guild Awards “is normally an excellent barometer of who will win Best Director at the Oscars,” however, when the Oscar nominations were announced on January 10, Affleck’s name wasn’t even on the list, making it impossible for the DGA nod to lead to an Academy Award win. Despite what some are saying is an “Oscar snub” for Affleck, he was honored at the 2013 Golden Globes, Producers Guild Awards and the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
His film Argo is still being recognized at the Oscars, despite Affleck not being nominated as director, with a nomination for Best Picture.
The Academy Awards will take place on February 24.
