The Big Apple is home to some of the hottest nightlife in the world and no one knows that better than Jayma Cardoso. In an industry often dominated by men, the Brazilian native has become one of the most respected nightclub, hotel and restaurant owners in New York City and beyond.

No easy feat, especially for someone who came to New York at the age of 18 to attend the “English as a Second Language” program at Rutgers University. After working as a cocktail waitress and hostess at some of the city’s most venerable nightclubs, Cardoso cultivated an enviable Rolodex of contacts and decided to go out on her own. Today, she owns The Surf Lodge in Montauk and is the managing partner at Lavo in midtown Manhattan.
