Diane Sawyer May Retire from ABC World News

News | February 1, 2013

Veteran news anchor Diane Sawyer may be stepping down from ABC World News. After working for the network for nearly 25 years, the 67-year-old journalist is reportedly considering retiring in 2013.

“She has discussed with a few close friends and some people at ABC that she is seriously considering retiring,” a source close to Sawyer told the New York Daily News. “She said she’ll be ready to hang it up not long down the road. She loves work and what she does and has endless energy, but she’s overwhelmed with personal problems and she is thinking about leaving to take care of her family.”

For the past several years, Sawyer has been traveling home on the weekends to care for her sick mother. “No one wants to see her going through a rough time. She’s the nicest woman,” added the insider.

Though Sawyer has yet to confirm or deny the retirement rumors, a rep for ABC said, “That’s a bunch of nonsense as we made clear and Diane’s plans for 2013 haven’t changed in any way.”
