Just days before the 2013 Academy Awards, actress Charlize Theron and Toms shoes founder Blake Mycoskie hosted an intimate dinner at the Toms flagship store on Abbott Kinney Blvd. in Venice to celebrate the launch of Toms x CTAOP, a collaboration between Toms and the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project (CTAOP).

Theron and Mycoskie teamed up to create a limited edition line of shoes available for both women and kids, according to a press release, and each pair feature the embroidered sun found in Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project’s logo and CTAOP’s motto, “Look Within. Think Beyond. Reach Out.”

Toms is a proud supporter of CTAOP and its “efforts to keep African youth safe from HIV/AIDs. The organization was created in 2007 by Theron and while the “geographic scope of CTAOP is Sub-Saharan Africa, the primary concentration has been Theron’s home country of South Africa.” As an avid traveler, Mycoskie befriended children in a village in Argentina in 2006 and after noticing they had no shoes, he wanted to help, so he created Toms Shoes, “a company that would match every pair of shoes purchased with a pair of new shoes given to a child in need.”
