Recently Opened, The Hoxton Is Brickell’s Epicenter of Slow Food and Mixology
It’s not exactly a restaurant, but the food is still divine. The Britannia-cool bar nestled in The Axis Condominium on Brickell, is the first in a series of openings that includes Boxpark restaurant an Harvey Wolf, and intriguingly named nightclub. The Hoxton goes after an audience that has had enough of the typical Miami style and is seeking something relaxed yet refined. Outfitted in an open, beachy whitewashed style that has had more than one visitor note a decided Soho Beach House vibe. Not surprisingly, the owner, Santiago Rodriguez of the Vassili Group was inspired by his experiences living in Shoreditch in East London on, you guessed it, Hoxton Street.
The concept works for this “urban oasis” that serves hearty yet refined bites such as a Maine Lobster Roll, Duck Poutine with Fries and Gravy and Farm Egg Quiche. Executive Chef Matt Hinckley, who worked under Michael Schwartz at Michael’s Genuine, focuses on the food even if it’s mostly meant to accompany one of their exquisite craft cocktails. “I’m more concerned with making recipes from 100 years ago than [modern] things like the latest foam,” says the chef who only uses 100% grass fed beef. “Slow Food is the opposite of fast food.” Explains Hinckley who makes his own charcuterie and visits farms where his meat is sourced. Hinckley’s dishes make a trip to The Hoxton worth it, whether you’re looking for dinner or drinks. He also gives a sneak peek into Boxpark next door, which promises to serve an amazing assortment of wild game.
