FELA! Returns to Chicago

The most critically acclaimed musical of a couple seasons ago, FELA!, is on a World Tour and on it’s way back to Chicago. Presented by superstars Jay-Z, Will and Jada Pinkett Smith FELA! The Musical, winner of three Tony Awards, is an amazingly inspiring tale of courage, passion and love. It’s based on Fela Kuti, the creator of Afrobeat, which is a blend of jazz, funk and African Rhythm. The musical shows Kuti’s life as an artist and human rights activist and it features some of Fela Kuti’s most incredible music.

The World Tour features some of the original Broadway Production but adds The Royal National Theatre production; it all comes together with the brilliant staging of Bill T. Jones. After Jay-Z and the famous Smiths came on board and received the blessing of Kuti’s family (Fela died in 1997), the production started in 2009 and has been a hit ever since. There has been a number of notable celebrities seen in the audience at the show including Mick Jagger, Charlize Theron, Michelle Obama, Sting, Madonna and countless others.
