Stewart Rahr Gives $25,000 to Sailing Heals
At an exclusive Panerai Watch event in Bal Harbour, Florida, the billionaire stepped up to the plate and phoned in a $25,000 donation to Sailing Heals. The event was held in the Italian watch brand’s boutique and was celebrating Haute Living Publisher Kamal Hotchandani for his own philanthropic efforts with the charity, which takes underprivileged youth and military veterans out on the water for a healing day of sailing in classic sailboats. In addition to spending his own time and money, Hotchendani has been instrumental at getting friends with deep pockets, like Rarh involved.
Rahr, a former pharmaceutical magnate, is the largest single donor to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. This spring their 10,000th wish will be in his honor and will be celebrated with an over-the-top fete with his closest friends and performances by artists like Lionel Richie. Alicia Keys and Andrea Bocelli. “I love the children and I fully intend to head to Miami for a day of sailing with them,” says Rahr. This generous donation to Sailing Heals comes on the heels of a recent $100,000 donation to the Hurricane Sandy relief fund and a whopping $7,000,000 gift to cancer research. “There is a Winston Churchhill quote I try to live by, ‘We make a living by what we get but we make a life by what we give.”
Jorge Perez Plans to Move In to His Own Development at One Ocean
Jorge Perez, Miami’s leading builder, recently opened up One Ocean, his latest condo project. One Ocean is an eight-story luxury building located in Miami Beach’s South-of-Fifth neighborhood. Perez reportedly loved the way his development turned out so much, he’s keeping an ultra modern penthouse for himself where he will reside, at least part-time, with his family. The unit Perez is moving into is 3200 square feet with four bedrooms. Yabu Pushelberg is expected to design the space and will work with Perez’s design objective, which is a relaxed beachy look what will incorporate overstuffed white couches, lightcolored wood, and lots of art. Perez is moving away from traditional furnishings, in favor of more contemporary things. “My way of life has changed. Before, perhaps from insecurity, or my background, I was living in the ways I remembered,” Perez exclusively told The Wall Street Journal. Perez will continue to keep their two other homes as well: One in a townhouse in Park City, Utah, and a penthouse in Punta del Este, Uruguay.
Jeffrey Soffer Survives Fatal Helicopter Crash
On Thanksgiving Day, a devastating helicopter crash involving Turnberry Associates CEO Jeffery Soffer occurred just outside an exclusive resort in the Bahamas.
