Jimmy Smits To Star In Steppenwolf Production

News | December 20, 2012

After months of talking about it, it’s almost here; Jimmy Smits comes to a Chicago stage for the first time. Smits is starring in Steppenwolf Theatre Company’s The Motherf***** with the Hat. He will be starring alongside Sandra Delgado, Sandra Marquez, Gary Perez, and John Ortiz. The production, directed by Anna D. Shapiro, is a reprisal of her 2011 Broadway play, with a new cast.

Stephen Adly Guirgis penned the play about a former recovering alcoholic, an intense girlfriend and his counselor. It takes strong characters and shows the humanity of dealing with very deep emotional situations. Without giving anything away, it’s deep, passionate and even funny. Jimmy Smits will take on the role originated by comedian Chris Rock. Previews for The Motherf***** with the Hat will start December 28th, with the show running January 6th 2013 to March 3rd 2013. It will be showing in Steppenwolf’s Downstairs Theatre (1650 North Halsted). Tickets, which run between $20-$68, can be purchased on www.steppenwolf.org or calling 312-335-1650.
