Internationally renowned artist Domingo Zapata will unveil a mural that will be the start of a new collection to kick off Art Basel Miami Beach 2012 as part of the W South Beach Hotel’s permanent collection from 9-11 p.m. in The Grove, followed by an after party at WALL, on December 5.

According to a press release, the W Hotel and WALL have been sources of inspiration for Domingo Zapata’s work, making the unveiling location ideal for this highly anticipated collection. The unveiling is strictly exclusive to press and VIPs, and will be followed with an after party. The mural, which took Zapata months to paint, will be seen for the very first time at the unveiling at WALL, a hotspot for numerous celebrity clientele, including Matt Damon, Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones, Tom Cruise and more.

Born in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, Zapata currently maintains a studio at the historic Bowery Hotel in New York City as well as at the Chateau Marmont in Hollywood and the 16th Arrondissement in Paris. At these private locations, Zapata “produces figurative and abstract expressionist paintings” in both oils and acrylics, often incorporating mixed media collages and graffiti.

Zapata art collectors include Johnny Depp, the Cipriani Group, Joel Robuchon, and the Chazen family.

During last year’s Art Basel Miami Beach, Zapata’s showing called “Dangerous Things” attracted over 1,000 people at the Delano Hotel.
