Brunch and the Tiffany Diamond in Dubai
In honor of Tiffany’s 175th anniversary, the iconic 128.54 carat Tiffany Diamond leaves its home in New York City to travel around the world in new magnificent locations. Reset in a dazzling necklace with over 120 carats of white diamonds, this month the legendary stone made its stop in Dubai.
On 11 December guests arrived at the Armani Hotel for a brunch to celebrate 175 years of Tiffany’s excellence in design. The exhibition, A Legacy of Diamonds, featured jewellery from the Tiffany archives based on three themes: The Gilded Age (1876-1916), featuring a diamond and emerald brooch from the French Crown jewels which Tiffanys bought in 1887; Inspiration by Nature, showcasing jewels including a chrysanthemum broach of diamonds and pearls and The New York Glamour, boasting glittering diamonds representing the magnificent city’s skyscrapers.
A spectacular fashion show took us back in time through Tiffany’s changing designs. Mesmerized by the display of beauty and brilliance, we waited in anticipation until the end of the event for the unveiling of the Legendary Tiffany diamond. Darkness fell inside the ballroom, as the curtains opened and a chorus of gasps echoed throughout the room.
Bought by Charles Lewis Tiffany in 1878, the Tiffany Diamond is deemed one of the world’s largest and finest fancy yellow diamonds. The company’s greatest icon hardly ever leaves it’s home at Tiffany’s Fifth Avenue store in New York. In addition, only two women have ever worn the Diamond – Mary Whitehouse in 1957 for a lavish Tiffany ball and Audrey Hepburn in 1961 during publicity photos for the classic film Breakfast at Tiffany’s. “We are extremely proud that Dubai was chosen as one of the only three cities outside of New York to showcase the Tiffany Diamond as part of the company’s 175th anniversary,” said Michael J. Kowalski, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Tiffany’s. “This places Dubai alongside Tokyo and Beijing as an international luxury retail destination and highlights the importance of this market to Tiffany’s global strategy.”
The priceless gem is on display in Tiffany’s Dubai Mall flagship store from 13 December until 9 January after which, it will return to its home in New York.
