It was a star-studded, power-couple evening on Wednesday in New York as husband and wife duo Beyonce and Jay-Z joined LeBron James and his fiancée Savannah Brinson at the Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year Award.

LeBron James is now one of seven professional basketball players to be honored with the Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year Award, joining the likes of teammate Dwyane Wade, Tim Duncan, David Robinson, Michael Jordan, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Bill Russell. This year, LeBron was presented with the honor at the Manhattan eSpace club as friends and family supported him from the audience.

Jay-Z and LeBron James donned dark tailored suits while the ladies added a touch of color, including Beyonce’s crimson colored pantsuit and Savannah’s purple hip-hugging dress by Emilio Pucci.

According to Sports Illustrated, at the event LeBron thanks his family, including his mother Gloria who was also in the audience, and his fiancée, and then “cited his work with the LeBron James Family Foundation and Wheels for Education.”

“It means everything to me,” he said. “To be able to inspire kids, to be able to be a role model to those kids, it is everything. I feel like all adults, as role models, as leaders, as mentors, we all have to find a way to make sure these kids’ dreams become a reality.”

James has been featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated 18 times, the first being back in February 2002 (as a high school junior) where he was tagged as “The Chosen One”.
