Peter Thiel, famed startup investor and Paypal co-founder, is reportedly looking to invest $150 million into Airbnb, the San Francisco based online lodging marketplace.
Airbnb has been aggressively expanding overseas, and could use the funds to accelerate that push, or to cash out early investors and employees.
It is not yet clear whether Thiel is making the investment personally or through Founders Fund, the venture-capital firm he runs.
If the deal goes through, Thiel’s investment, along with current investments from Andreessen Horowiz and Sequoia Capital, would value Airbnb at $2.5 billion.
