Las Vegas officials welcomed British Airways’ first flight from London’s Gatwick Airport with the traditional water cannon salute. The British Airways 272-seat, Boeing 777 will fly to Las Vegas three times per week. The new Gatwick service is estimated to provide a nongaming economic impact to Southern Nevada of nearly $41.5 million annually.
The United Kingdom is the No. 1 source of overseas travelers to come through McCarran, generating approximately 418,000 visitors to Las Vegas from London in 2011, and accounting for nearly 9 percent of all international travel to Las Vegas, according to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. With the addition of the new British Airways flight from Gatwick, the UK serves as the largest source of overseas non-stop flights to Las Vegas with 20 weekly flights totaling 7,541 seats generating an annual non-gaming economic impact of $383 million.
