Coachella Music Festival Set to Rake In $141 Million By Possible 5 Weekend Expansion in 2013

News | September 14, 2012

It raked in $47 million in ticket sales alone, and now the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival could stand to triple that amount.

A new report in The Desert Sun reports that Goldenvoice, the company behind the Coachella and Stagecoach festivals in Indio, has proposed to add an additional three weekends of music.

Goldenvoice is also asking for permission to increase the capacity for existing events, as well as boosting the amount of the land used.

The city council of Indio is currently considering the proposal.

Given the boom in tourism the city saw during the festival – which expanded from one weekend to two this year – chances are good that city officials will greenlight the proposal.

Coachella has also expanded to the ocean: the S.S. Coachella — a cruise festival — will set sail in December.
