The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials
While London is still suffering from an Olympics hangover, attention is now turning to Stamford where the Burghley Horse Trials are set to take place from August 30 to September 2. Land Rover and horse enthusiasts alike will be heading to the countryside to take in one of the biggest equestrian sporting and social events of the year. Land Rover has signed on as the title sponsor of the event for the eighth year running, so guests can be assured there will be plenty of beautiful cars present. In fact, there are rumors the 2013 Freelander 2 Land Rover and Defender Land Rover will mark their debut at this event.
Among the contenders expected are New Zealand’s Mark Todd and Andrew Nicholson, Britain’s Mary King, William Fox-Pitt and Kristina Cook, and Germany’s Dirk Schrade, all of whom are fresh off the podium wins at the Olympics. The competition boasts a £55,000 first-prize to the winner of the Perpetual Challenge Trophy.
The competition will take place at the historic Burghley House, one of Britain’s largest and most impressive Elizabethan homes. While the races are the main event, there are also a number of events to keep guests occupied between races. More than 500 retailers will set up shop in specialized pavilions on three main avenues. Chef extraordinaire Marco Pierre White will be judging the “Land Rover Perfect Tailgate Picnic” competition on Saturday September 1st at the Burghley Food Walk. Visitors will also have access to the Celebrity Talk Area in The Exhibition Village, which will host interviews and autograph sessions with riders.
