Jamie Oliver’s The Big Chair Project
Ten years ago, chef Jamie Oliver founded the charity The Better Food Foundation with the aim of helping unemployed young people get training as professional chefs via Oliver’s Fifteen restaurant. To mark the anniversary of the creation of this foundation and the incredible work it has done since, Oliver has developed an exciting fundraising programs called The Big Chair Project. Proceeds of the project will help raise funds for the next decade of the foundation’s work.
The Big Chair Project has commissioned twenty artists and designers to create a unique version of a Fritz Hansen ANT™ chair. The results will be a world exclusive, and will be auctioned off to benefit the foundation. Oliver has worked his charm to pull in big designer names, including Sarah Burton (the head designer at McQueen who created Princess Kate’s iconic wedding dress), Matthew Williamson, Julien McDonald, Paul Smith, Tracey Emin and Liberty. The chairs are now on display online and the auction is open for any “Big Bid”. For those who are light in the wallet, there will also be an online lottery for the chairs, so even if you don’t have the funds to participate in the auction, you still stand the chance of winning one of these beautiful chairs for a donation of £5 ($8). Six lucky lottery winners will chosen at random.
The online auction closes October 9th . The top bidders for each chair will be invited, along with a guest, to the live final auction at the Fritz Hansen showroom in London on October 11th. All results will be announced online on October 12th.
